About AXIS Get EMC2 Documentation Translations ETCH CNC Developer Homepages: Chris Radek Jeff Epler Related sites: linuxcnc.org linuxcnc wiki | « AXIS "minigl" patch -- AXIS without PyOpenGL | Newest entries in downloads | Improved progress bar patch » I'm happy to present the second release candidate for AXIS 1.1. Whether the next release is 1.1rc3 or 1.1 final, I hope we don't let quite as much time pass. A lot has changed between 1.1rc1 and this snapshot. This includes some bugfixes, some user-visible features (like dimensioning, "Override Limits", improved navigation, and better preset views), and some behind the scenes stuff (AXIS no longer depends on PyOpenGL or BLT, and several memory leaks have been fixed). A more complete changelog is below. This version of AXIS supports the HEAD of emc1 and the HEAD of emc2. It is believed to support the version of emc on bdi-4.30, but we don't test this ourselves. Changes in 1.1rc2:The packages "blt" and "python-opengl" are no longer required. Building AXIS requires development packages for Python, Tkinter, Tcl/Tk, OpenGL.Navigation is improved in several ways. The zoom wheel now works the opposite way, which seems to be the way most other software does it. Rotation now snaps to multiples of 90 degrees, rotates around the center of the loaded file or the selected line, and keeps the Z axis pointing up. Preset views now start with a reasonable zoom level. The extents of the file are shown with onscreen dimensions. These give the smallest and largest point specified in the file, as well as the overall distance. Several memory leaks have been fixed, one of which was severe. (Note: "SIMPLEINSTALL" does not update the files where these bugs were) 'M1xx' commands are now shown in the preview with a mark similar to a dwell. Before, they gave errors and no preview was available. While loading a file, there is now a progress indicator. Loading large files is now much faster. (workaround for a Tk "text" widget bug) The tool cone is now lit more brightly and from a different angle. On some screens it looked black. The feed override slider is now responsive even when a program is running. Key and mouse help are now shown in a single "Help > AXIS Quick Reference" screen. AXIS will stop jogging if any other window steals the focus. The code listing will no longer scroll unexpectedly when selecting a line in it. Support for metric configurations is improved, but still affected by an EMC bug which results from using metric files on inch configurations and vice versa: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1374766&group_id=6744&atid=106744 There is now an "override limit" checkbutton. Changes in 1.1rc1:AXIS will now jog reliably the first time a jog key is pressed. The window fits on a 800x600 screen with KDE toolbar (BDI4) Several build-time warnings have been fixed. The "increment" combobox now works correctly on certain window managers where it did not before (twm, fluxbox) Use INI values for relative/absolute and commanded/actual coordinates "G54" offsets can now be set with the "Offset" button and shift-home keyboard
